Cape Precious Metals staff were so saddened to hear of the passing of one of our longest-standing clients and stalwart of the numismatic trade, Natalie Jaffe.
City Coins was established by Natalie’s late husband and has been operating from Cape Town for almost 50 years. Natalie was a qualified librarian who found herself running the business after the untimely death of her spouse. She flourished in this unexpected role, establishing an international reputation for the company.
While many women work in the numismatic industry, Natalie Jaffe was the only woman in the world to own and run a ground floor business dealing in all aspects of numismatics.
She believed in empowering her clients, whether through her expertise or her extensive network.
For many people coin collecting is simply an enjoyable and stimulating hobby. Numismatics, however, also incorporates banknotes, medals, tokens, mementos and a variety of other beautiful collectibles.
The joy in Natalie’s work lay in providing a personalised, customised service to collectors of the huge variety of items that fall under the numismatics umbrella.
She fought a brave battle against cancer, and even in the late stages of her illness it was “business as usual”.
She succumbed on 18 January 2023 and is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren.
She will be sorely missed.
