CPM’s Gauteng office recently held a Market/Networking Day at the Fricker Road precinct in Illovo. The event is a first for us in Johannesburg, with the goal being to take our products to the clients to promote, sell and just have a general chat about their needs for the next few months.

The annual PlatAfrica Awards took place last month and CPUT student Jana Basson took first place in the Student / Apprentice category with her stunning multipurpose Unity neckpiece / bracelet. We asked her a few questions to gain insight on the inspiration of her winning piece, and noted a few of them below:

The University of Stellenbosch recently hosted their mesmerising annual Visual Poetry Exhibition, where creativity and craftsmanship converged in a breathtaking display of artistry. At the heart of this exhibition were the talented undergraduate students from the Creative Metal & Jewellery Design Department, who were tasked with the unique challenge of creating exquisite pieces of jewellery while mastering specific technical skills.

This is because platinum’s high density, strength, and resistance to metal erosion makes it the most ideal metal for securing valuable gems—provided, of course, the right platinum alloy is used. The way the metal is worked during jewellery manufacturing also plays an important role in the durability of the
